Meet Botany Buddy
A product designed to give kids and beginners a friendly, approachable face to the wide world of scientific discovery and plant care. The core design centers on two playful visual anchors: Professor Potsworth, a smart interactive pot, and Dewey the carrot, a disguised temperature and humidity sensor. These two friends communicate with a digital interface that allows the user to keep tabs on their plant friends from afar and receive tips based on real-time data.
The pot needed to communicate its needs directly without feeling like a complex piece of tech. Integrated light-up cheeks serve as ambient status lights, glowing to alert the user when it's time to water. Underneath the surface, built-in temperature and humidity sensors constantly monitor soil health, feeding real-time plant growth data back into a connected app.By framing plant care through character-driven storytelling, a routine science lesson quickly turns into a memorable, companion-led experience.

The companion app widget closes the feedback loop by mirroring the pot's visual personality. If soil moisture dips too low, the character shifts to a sad, distressed expression. Once the user waters their plant, the widget instantly updates to a happy, cool character state—using positive reinforcement to build consistent, engaging care habits.

Technical Specifications
The Botany Buddy system is engineered to fit compactly within the base. The internal layout stacks a Raspberry Pi controller alongside a Bluetooth Low Energy module, a dedicated battery power unit, a soil sensor probe, and a humidity/temperature sensor. This keeps the technical footprint clean and contained without sacrificing functionality.

Design Philosophy
The primary goal was to humanize scientific discovery by turning routine plant maintenance into an emotional connection. Rather than designing another utilitarian smart pot or cold tech gadget, Botany Buddy was treated less like hardware and more as a character. The soft, rounded physical forms and expressive cheek details break down intimidation, inviting users of all ages to engage directly with botany.
